Hello. I am wanting to create a hedge that is from a variety of british native trees preferably, but i do not really want to be trimming them as i prefer to spend my time on the veg patch. I would like shrubs/trees that reach around 1m or so in height. Are there any such species? If not, are there any non-native species that still appeal to a variety of native birds and insects. Resolved Question: Can't find a photo that matches this tree/shrub don't know what it is?

It is mature,it is an evergreen.It grows upward like a red tip photinia ,rough bark ,leaves are apx.5 inches long with ruffled edges that have sharp teeth.I don't see any berries or fruit at this time.The new growth is a reddish color ,the leaf stem is reddish in color at the base where it is attached to the stem. I searched at the Virginia Tech Drendrology site but no luck.I live in west texas so I am in zone 7.Any help would be great I don't like not knowing what is in my yard. Resolved Question: What is the best drought tolerant shrub for San Antonio Texas?

Im looking for recommendations on a shrub that would be good for the climate of San Antonio, TX. The ones I had before died. Here's my requirements: 1) short shrub, 3 feet tall max. 2) Drought tolerant(the drought killed my previous shrubs). I do not want to spend any time watering these, they need to be able to survive on their own. This is important. 3) They are on the NW side of my house, so they will be in the shade in the morning. In the early afternoon they will have a few hours of direct sunlight. In the late afternoon they will mostly be in the shade because there is a tree to the west of the shrubs.
